Carla Corkern  Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board

Dedicated to the mission of engineering the safer pharmacy, Carla Corkern brings a strategic mindset with high-tech and business savvy to the role of Talyst’s CEO and Chairman of the Board.

Corkern champions the elimination of medication waste and medical errors that are so widespread and costly within the U.S. healthcare system. She believes the primary objectives of health reform can be achieved with a focus on these principles, and she advocates for the adoption of proven technology to deliver vastly improved patient safety and cost savings.

Embracing the big picture, Corkern is focused on building Talyst’s long-term success by enabling the success of its customers. She strives to continuously uncover and cultivate new markets that would benefit from Talyst’s expertise and secure a pipeline of new business for the company.

Corkern brings almost 20 years of experience in high-tech and supply chain management, and has helped build a number of highly-successful technology companies. Prior to joining Talyst, she served as chief operations officer at Vykor, Inc., a leading company in the management of the aerospace supply chain. She contributed to a plan that raised $28 million in venture capital funding and managed the company’s software development, customer support, training and professional services.

Corkern was instrumental in several public-company transitions and growth initiatives. She led a buyout of a division of Highland Digital to become the founder and president of ISOGEN International, which is now part of Inodata (NASDAQ: INOD). Corkern then led the integration of DataChannel into Netegrity (NASDAQ: NETE) and served as general manager for Netegrity’s portal business.

She is active in a number of charitable organizations, and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Seattle Girls’ School. Corkern is a staunch advocate of women seeking technology careers, and was recently named one of the 100 Top Women is Seattle Tech.

Corkern holds a B.S. in technical communication from Louisiana Tech University and conducted graduate work at Southern Methodist University.

Joe Schick  Chief Financial Officer

Joe Schick serves as Talyst’s Chief Financial Officer, devoted to high-level planning and strategic financial projects. He’s an accomplished executive whose 25 years of experience, including over 10 years in software, spans a broad spectrum of financial responsibilities, including accounting, strategic/financial planning, financial systems, and mergers & acquisitions.

He also has experience in taxes, treasury, SEC reporting, and internal audit at high-growth mid- to large-sized companies.

Joe joined Talyst in 2009 from Vertafore where, since 2006, he had been CFO of the 1,000-employee Business-to-Business insurance software vendor. At Vertafore, he helped manage strong organic growth along with financing multiple acquisitions. Prior to working at Vertafore, Joe was the Senior Vice President of Finance at Expedia. When Expedia spun-off from Microsoft in 1999, Joe helped build their Finance Department from the ground up. Over the next seven years, Joe had increasing levels of responsibility and led the accounting, tax, treasury, internal audit, financial systems, and financial planning & analysis teams as Expedia grew to over $2 billion in revenues.

Before joining Expedia, Joe was the Controller for Humongous Entertainment, a division of Atari, Inc. and held various finance positions with Westin/Starwood Hotels and Resorts. He began his career with Hewitt Associates, Inc. and Arthur Andersen LLP.

Joe earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and is a licensed CPA and CFP in the state of Washington.

Ron Strandin  Executive Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development

Ron Strandin is an accomplished manager of company growth. Strandin’s battle-tested methodology for aligning products, market message, sales coverage and partners has been rewarded with the INC 500 Fastest Growing Companies award in 5 of the past 8 years.

At Talyst, he is responsible for directing Sales, Marketing & Business Development. He is also responsible for strategic market planning including product management.

Accomplishing sales of innovative enterprise software products has been a recurring theme in Strandin’s career. For Rendition Networks, where he was Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Marketing, he directed a tenfold increase in revenue from the TrueControl configuration management software package. The company was then acquired by Opsware (now HP) for a healthy multiple.

Prior to that, as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Envision his team drove revenue to grow twelve-fold during the dot-com bust.

At Mosaix, a worldwide public company which specialized in customer relationship management software, Strandin was Vice President of Worldwide Sales, after serving as vice president of customer management applications. Both roles were focused on direct sales, dealer channels, VAR relationships and solution partners. Mosaix was acquired by Lucent.

He holds a B.A. in business administration from Western Washington University.

Dave Doane  Vice President, Pharmacy Services

As Talyst’s Vice President of Pharmacy Services, Dave helps drive the adoption and implementation of automated systems in all care environments. His extensive experience in long-term care has given him unique insights into the needs, capabilities, and concerns of pharmacies that service nursing facilities.

He is passionate about the benefits of Remote Dispensing, and anxious to share those benefits with the countless pharmacies and facilities with which he has cultivated relationships over the years.

Dave began his professional career more than two decades ago as a Staff Pharmacist for Evergreen Pharmaceutical, servicing long-term care facilities throughout Western Washington. He was soon promoted to Pharmacy Manager, where his eye for detail and natural leadership skills were critical to the implementation of automated storage systems and a number of large computer conversions—all while maintaining a 24/7, 365 day a year pharmacy operation.

In the mid 90′s Evergreen was acquired by Omnicare and soon another promotion made him Unit Manager, where he managed the successful growth of all product lines and services, including IV pharmacy, consultant pharmacy, Enteral/Urological services, Oxygen services and nursing services. When Dave left Omnicare, his Evergreen pharmacy was servicing over 15,000 beds in Western Washington.

Dave moved on to Genoa Healthcare as a member of the Executive Team and Regional Manager. His day-to-day responsibilities included developing and managing relationships with mental health clinics across the Western United States. He successfully drove the growth and expansion of Genoa, including opening four pharmacies in 18 months, all of which were profitable in 90 days.

Dave earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy from Washington State University, is a former board member of the Washington State Pharmacy Association, is active in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and serves on the Washington State University College of Pharmacy Alumni Advisory Board.

Shawn Powers  Executive Vice President of Operations

Shawn Powers brings valuable experience to Talyst’s Operations Team with over 20 years of general management and operations experience. Since joining Talyst in 2008, Shawn has helped lead the Customer Service and Support Team to provide support and sustain high-quality service to each of Talyst’s partners and customers.

He has earned a reputation as an outstanding leader with the ability to build high-performance organizations. Shawn’s current responsibilities at Talyst include operational responsibility for implementations, logistics, technical support, field support, and information technology.

Prior to joining Talyst, Shawn served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Loud Technologies. He led the company to its first profitable month in over two years by realigning the operations team and bringing key new products to market. Shawn also served as Vice President of Information Services for Trendwest Resorts with responsibility for all systems to support international operations. He has managed regional and national organizations with responsibility for over 200 employees.

Shawn is an accomplished business consultant who has led consulting engagements with Andersen Consulting and Cambridge Technology Partners. Shawn has supported corporate clients including US West, Pacific Bell Mobile Services, AT&T Wireless, Microsoft, and Virginia Mason Medical Clinic. He has also designed and built call center operations within several different industries. Shawn played a key role in the establishment of McCaw Communications national credit and accounts receivable operations.

Steve Short

Steve Short  Vice President of Sales

Steve Short is the most recent addition to the Talyst, Inc. executive team. Short’s career in healthcare and technology spans over two decades. He has been responsible for driving sales growth that led his prior company to expand from an individual owner, to private equity that ultimately culminated in a successful sale to a publicly-traded strategic buyer.

Short started in 1988 with the Psychiatric Institutes of America and lead its Professional Relations division for the eastern United States. After leaving, he went on to serve in recruitment and business development roles at Horizon Health and Charter Medical Corporation. In 2000, Short left healthcare to pursue a career in software sales to serve in development roles with Telstra and then transitioned to Envision Telephony where he was a top performer on the sales team.

He returned to the healthcare arena in 2003, joining medDISPENSE to build sales for an emerging manufacturer of medication dispensing automation. Short built a team that grew sales and expanded the company into new markets such as long-term care and specialty hospitals. Moreover, he moved the company beyond the U.S. by driving international expansion into Canada, Australia and the Middle East.

Short holds a BA Degree in Corporate Communications with minors in Marketing and Management from the Northern Kentucky University. Today, Short resides in a suburb outside of Atlanta with his wife and two children. He is active in many local charities where he serves in various leadership capacities.
